About This Archive
Some inheritances can be held.
For Making Room for Herself, Dr. Nina Denson chose a Mother’s Pin bearing the birthstones of her grandmother’s children, photographed resting on a Church of God in Christ centennial Bible.
Together, the objects hold two foundations that run throughout Nina’s story: family and faith. One preserves a generation through birthstones. The other marks a spiritual tradition that has shaped her since childhood.
Presented here, they offer a tangible record of what can pass from one generation to the next, and what we choose to carry forward.

Faith and Family, Held Together
“I believe that this early foundation and relationship with God really created who I became as an adult.” — Dr. Nina Denson
A Mother’s Pin bearing the birthstones of Nina’s grandmother’s grandchildren, resting on a Church of God in Christ centennial Bible. Together, the objects preserve two foundations that run throughout Nina’s story: the family she comes from and the faith that has shaped her since childhood.
Behind the Story
Nina chose this image because it holds two parts of her foundation in a single frame. The Mother’s Pin carries the birthstones of her grandmother’s children. Beneath it rests a Church of God in Christ centennial Bible.
The objects preserve what Making Room for Herself explores in words: before Nina was an educator, a leader or Dr. Denson, there was family and there was faith. Both became part of what she would carry into the woman she became.
What we save often reveals what shaped us. The Archive preserves these objects as evidence of the things that endure across generations. Family, faith, memory, and tradition can live in what we keep, quietly carrying the foundations of one life into the next.
