Dear Thirty-Seven,

Why This Letter, Why Now

August begins at a threshold. Before inviting others to reflect on who they have become, our founder begins with a letter to the person she is still meeting.

We haven’t met yet.

As I write this, you’re only days away. August 1 sits on the horizon like a front porch waiting for someone to come home. I don’t know everything you’ll bring, but I know enough to greet you with open hands instead of a tightly written plan.

For a long time, I believed birthdays were a measuring stick. Another year to compare. Another year to wonder if I had done enough, become enough, accomplished enough.

I’m learning they can be something else.

An invitation.

An opportunity to begin again.

Thirty-seven, I don’t need you to be easy. I don’t need you to answer every question or tie every loose end. I only ask that you make me braver than I was at thirty-six.

Teach me to keep showing up, especially on the ordinary days when no one is watching.

Teach me to choose consistency over perfection.

Teach me to trust that the smallest acts of faith can grow into something that outlives me.

Help me make room for the people who need to be seen, the stories that deserve to be remembered, and the conversations that make us feel a little less alone.

Remind me that legacy is not built in a single moment. It is built in quiet mornings, thoughtful work, difficult decisions, and the choice to keep going when progress feels invisible.

If disappointment comes, let it deepen my character instead of hardening my heart.

If success comes, let it never become more important than integrity.

If joy comes—and I hope it does—let me pause long enough to recognize it.

I hope this is the year I laugh more freely.

The year I listen more closely.

The year I celebrate people while they are still here to hear it.

The year I stop rushing toward the next thing long enough to appreciate the life unfolding right in front of me.

I hope I become someone who leaves every room a little warmer than I found it.

Someone who remembers names.

Someone who asks one more question.

Someone who treats every story with care because every story belongs to someone.

When I look back on this year, I don’t want my first thought to be about numbers or milestones. I want to remember how it felt to build something meaningful. To love my family well. To honor those who came before me. To create space for others to feel seen.

That is enough.

More than enough.

So, dear Thirty-Seven, I’m ready.

Not because I have everything figured out, but because I have stopped believing that certainty is the requirement for beginning.

Perhaps that is what this month is asking of me: not to arrive fully formed, but to remain willing to become.

Let’s build something beautiful together.
